Radar Istana.Jakarta -
After being appointed as the host of the Mayors and Governors Meeting of the ASEAN Capital (MGMAC) 2023 during the 2022 MGMAC in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, last Friday (2/12), Jakarta is now preparing to hold the 2023 MGMAC. Acting (Pj) Governor of DKI Jakarta, Heru Budi Hartono, conveyed a positive response to the handover of chairmanship to host the event during the Leadership Meeting, which took place yesterday (5/12).
Head of the Bureau for Cooperation Affairs, Marulina Dewi, explained that Acting Governor Heru has instructed all boards, departments, and bureaus within the Jakarta Capital City Government to provide an optimal preparation to support Indonesia's 2023 chairmanship of ASEAN and Jakarta's role as the host of MGMAC 2023.
"The Jakarta Capital City Government has formed a team to prepare Jakarta to support the Indonesian ASEAN Chairmanship in 2023 and to host the MGMAC 2023. We will also be intensely coordinating with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the ASEAN Secretariat and other institutions to ensure that the preparations are in line with the Central Government and are running well," explained Marulina Dewi in Jakarta City Hall, on Tuesday (6/12).
Previously, Indonesia's chairmanship in ASEAN 2023 was handed over by the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia Hun Sen to the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo at the ASEAN Summit on 13 November 2022. Then, the chairmanship for the 2023 Mayors and Governors Meeting (MGMAC) from Phnom Penh to Jakarta has been handed over by the Governor of Phnom Penh, Khuong Sreng, to the Head of the Regional Cooperation Bureau, Marulina Dewi as a representative from Jakarta. In addition, the Deputy Governor of East Java, Emil Elestianto Dardak, and the Mayor of Bogor, Bima Arya Sugiarto, as representatives of the Republic of Indonesia, have also accepted the handover of the 2023 ASEAN Mayors Forum (AMF) host from Cambodia.
MGMAC itself is a forum which was initiated by Joko Widodo as the Governor of DKI Jakarta in 2013. This forum is a vehicle for governors and mayors from capital cities of ASEAN countries to discuss challenges and solutions to urban problems, as well as a mean of strengthening collaboration between these cities
